Healthy Steps to an Active Lifestyle

Take part in a  unique opportunity for our campus community.

The “Healthy Steps to an Active Lifestyle” Program is a cooperative effort between Campus Recreation and the Institute of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness utilizing programming experience, academic expertise and resources available on campus. Our mission is to guide you toward a healthier lifestyle and help you to participate in a safe, highly effective and enjoyable exercise experience.

Take these following steps in our health/fitness screening and intake process so we can best assist in guiding you towards the most appropriate exercise opportunities at Adelphi for you!

  1. Complete a CRS membership application form, the Pre-participation Screening form and the Physician’s Clearance Form.
  2. Submit the completed forms along with the applicable fees to the Campus Recreation Office located in Woodruff 240 so we can review and process your application*
  3. After your membership has been processed you will have a New Member Orientation Session in which you will pick up your membership card, obtain proper parking permit paperwork, receive a general tour, and ask any additional questions about the membership you may have.

*Based on the review process of your forms, it may be recommended that you participate in the Adult Fitness Program and/or periodic exercise monitoring at some level prior to engaging in less supervised activity. Consideration is given to age, health status & previous exercise experience.

For an additional $50 fee, you have the opportunity to participate in a Fitness Assessment to determine your level of health related fitness and baseline for your exercise program with the Institute of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness Program. This assessment includes a sub-maximal exercise test on a bike or treadmill, body composition analysis and test for muscular fitness and flexibility. From this information, you will receive a Personal Exercise Prescription based on your assessment, designed to help you meet your goals. The Fitness Assessment also includes periodic follow up and reassessment for up to 1 year.

We hope you take advantage of all that Adelphi has to offer in order to reach your fitness goals!
