Open Rec Swim

During open swim times, lanes are designated for lap swimming and access to the pool is through the recreation locker rooms in the lower level of the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Learn to Swim: Adult Non-Credit Swim Instruction

Each semester, Campus Recreation offers non-credit Learn-to-Swim courses for the Adelphi community at two beginner levels. Classes are limited to small number of participants. This allows instructors to focus on individual students and their skill development. Classes meet twice a week for 45 minutes over the course of 5 weeks for a total of 10 classes. Proper bathing suit is required as well as a commitment to attend all class sessions.

How to Sign Up:

  • Come to the Campus Rec Office in Woodruff 240
  • Fill out Registration Form
  • Present valid Adelphi ID
  • Pay the $40 fee by cash or check

Beginner Level 1

This class is designed for those who have never learned to swim or may have developed a true fear of the water over time. This class will help you feel more comfortable in the pool. The main focuses of the class are floating, kicking, learning proper stroke and breathing. There are 2 instructors for maximum of 8 students.  The student goals for the course are swimming one lap of the pool and treading water for a minute.

Mondays & Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 Noon

W: 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
T: 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25
TH: 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27

Beginner Level 2

This class is for adults who are more familiar with the water, but wish to improve their strokes and techniques. Students signing up for this class should be able to swim at least one length of the pool. Swimmers will build endurance and be able to swim multiple strokes. There are 2 instructors for a maximum of 8 students. The student goals for the course are streamlining strokes in order to swim for fitness and endurance. Students in this class should be able to swim one length of the pool.
